When Buying Used Articles

Stores selling new retail items do a pretty good job of pulling recalled items from the shelves, but extra caution must be taken when buying second-hand, whether from a consigment store, or from an individual who may not know an item has been recalled.

This is our favorite for recall information - not only is it a Canadian site, but they also keep past recalls as well as current ones.
CBC Marketplace Warnings & Recalls

Car seats that have been in an accident should NEVER be re-used. Because there often may be no outward signs of damage, yet a seat may be structurally affected, we recommend you never buy a used car seat unless it is from someone you know personally who can assure you it has never been in an impact. I was especially horrified a few months ago to see a driver for a well-known charitable organization literally fling a car seat into the back of the truck. This is one of the organizations who then resell the donated items to Value Village and similar stores. I called the organization immediately to complain and was assured that all seats collected that day and on that driver's route would be destroyed. Hopefully, all the drivers were warned as well
...but you just never know!
